Paris Raises Accommodation Taxes: What Your Company Needs to Know

Paris has implemented an increase in taxes on hotels and other accommodation, effective from January 1, making visits to the city more expensive for travelers. Atout France, the country's tourism development agency, confirmed the rise, which sees a significant surge in nightly taxes for 2024 stays, varying depending on the accommodation type.

The steepest increase applies to guests in luxury "palaces," now facing a nightly tax of €14.95 ($16.38), marking a 199 percent rise from 2023's €5 ($5.48). Travelers in 5-star hotels will pay €10.73 ($11.75) per night, up by 186 percent from the previous rate of €3.75 ($4.11), while those in 4-star hotels will see an increase to €8.13 ($8.91), a jump of 182 percent from €2.88 ($3.15).

Even guests in 1-star hotels, holiday villages, guest rooms, or hostels will experience a modest increase, with the new rate set at €2.60 ($2.85), up from €1 ($1.10).

The decision precedes the Paris Olympics, with hotel prices already soaring, expected to be over 300 percent higher than usual for the summer games. Paris anticipates over 11 million visitors during the event, commencing on July 26.
